Participants in this year’s Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Week, March 5-12 at Michigan State University (MSU), can hone their horticultural skills during several workshops offered during the week.
The Lavender Growers Conference, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 11 at the Kellogg Hotel and Confernce Center, will feature speakers on lavender cultural practices with an emphasis on natural production methods, agritourism and marketing of lavender farms, culinary lavender and the commercial kitchen, and the MSU Horticulture Gardens.
Native Plants and their Habitats, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 6-7 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, is the focus of the 29th annual Michigan Wildflower Conference. The keynote speaker is Larry Weaner, a nationally recognized landscape designer with over 30 years of landscape design and installation experience.
The horticultural therapy session, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. March 11 at the Plant and Soil Sciences Building, will feature informative breakout sessions, book and product sales, hands-on workshops, displays, refreshments, door prizes and an optional visit to the MSU 4-H Children’s Garden. Participants will learn aspects of horticultural therapy that can enhance adult day services, senior programs, health services, rehabilitation programs and more
The annual Michigan conference on herb history, culture, design and cooking -- 8:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. March 10 at the Plant and Soil Sciences Building -- promises a garden fiesta to remember. Speakers include Lucinda Hutson, Jessica Wright, Val Albright, Merry Kim Meyers and Lori Evesque. The conference will also offer educational displays, a silent auction and several vendors.
The Organic Reporting Session, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 11 at the Brody Complex, will offer research presentations on organic production and soil health and a discussion on topics including new approaches to organic production as well as organic marketing.
For 101 years, the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, MSU Extension and MSU AgBioResearch have welcomed visitors to ANR Week. This year’s event, March 5-12, offers more than 50 programs and annual association meetings on and near the East Lansing campus. ANR Week is the largest event of its kind in the nation.
