Michigan Agroforestry Working Group

The Michigan Agroforestry Working Group (MAWG) encourages the adoption of agroforestry practices by producers across Michigan through two main pathways: 1) assisting existing conservation organizations with the dissemination of best practices, educational workshops, and farm demos and 2) working with government agencies to procure additional funding and incentives to support existing and encourage new adopters of agroforestry.

Goals:

  1. To educate landowners and producers on the benefits and proper execution of agroforestry practices
  2. To work in tandem with institutions of higher education to explore agroforestry applications; advance design, implementation, and productivity; and disseminate research driven data
  3. To minimize the burdens & barriers preventing widespread adoption of agroforestry
  4. To coordinate a statewide messaging campaign on agroforestry
  5. To increase the frequency, distribution, and breadth of agroforestry practices supported by NRCS programs (EQIP/CSP)
  6. To connect agencies across the state who wish to encourage and increase the adoption of agroforestry practices
  7. To share and promote new findings and methods used in agroforestry
  8. To provide a pathway for sharing technical expertise, funding opportunities, and demonstration sites statewide
