Programs

The class intends to produce individuals poised to be well-trained, professional farriers to serve the equine industry.

12 and 24 Week Program

The goals of the MSU Farrier School are to train professional farriers for a long-term career in the industry and to prepare participants for future American Farrier Association certification upon successful completion. The 12-week program covers basic anatomy, introductory forge work, and basic practical skills with horses. The 24-week program covers the topics completed in the 12-week program, with additional review and supervised practice.

Offering Courses Fall 2024 and Spring 2025

Course dates:

Fall: September 16 - December 6 

Spring: January 6 - March 28 

The course meets Monday – Friday for 6 to 8 hours each day.

Applicants interested in starting the MSU Farrier School will be considered for the next upcoming session.

Location

MSU Farrier School will be held at the MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center, 3327 Collins Rd., Lansing, Michigan 48910.

Housing

Housing is not provided. Program participants will need to secure local housing on their own if needed.
