Background:

Shane is from Lansing, Michigan. He is an avid angler and is passionate about native Great Lakes fishes. He received a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University in 2016, a M.S. in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences from Louisiana State University in 2018, and a Ph.D. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University in 2024.

Research:

Shane is broadly interested in fisheries biology and management, and quantitative methods in fisheries. His expertise also includes the use of decision science (i.e., structured decision making) to inform natural resource management problems. His current research is developing and applying hierarchical growth models to Great Lakes fishes to better understand how individuals vary in growth and the potential fishery and population-level consequences of among-individual variation in growth.
